Really fun and bizarre. My kinda cinema. It feels like True Stories if every note was hit just right. In general, Neil Young is not someone who I think about much.
The Human Highway plays Neil Young
His voice kind of grates on me, and his folksy sound never appealed to me. But this is not that Neil Young. He's taking a page from Stephen King's book of acting, seeming very much like King's character in Creepshow, which I see was the same year! I almost didn't even recognize Russ Tamblyn with that crazy look on his face for the whole movie.
Between him, Dean Stockwell, Dennis Hopper, and the surreal nature of the world in which it takes place, this feels like some kind of alternate reality David….
Neil Young does his best Jordy Verrill impression in this It comes off as more as a bunch of drunken and high actors dicking around on a sound stage with one set and a green screen which is exactly what it was. In reality this is a terrible movie, but some how it worked for me and I didn't care the story was bad and the jokes didn't land most of the time. My brain says 1 star, my heart says 5. A movie where Neil Young makes a racist slur.
The extraordinary sight of Dennis Hopper serving breakfast to a raccoon on the eve of the apocalypse.
